Vampires: Nosferatu Sanguineous - "Bloody Undead!"
Vampires are an intelligent humanoid that have one or all of the following characteristics:
1- Has a deficit of hemogoblin in their blood and requires such from human or cattle blood.
2- Has a violent craving for blood, although the craving can be transferred to other things such as photography or coffee.
3- Craves power over people.
Most vampires originate in Überwald, and those who are still powerful noble families in that region are still feuding with the werewolves. Vampires are often powerful feudal lords because they are undead, so they have had plenty of time to accumulate wealth and political power. Also, they can violently suppress the townspeople if such an action actually becomes necessary. Generally, vampires who want to rule over people can simply influence their minds. Though the term "vampire feudal families" is used, it is more common for one single vampire to be the lord of a feudal region; vampires generally do not raise families.
Vampire are immortal but nearly indestructible. Though they can be reduced to fine dust by sunlight or a small number of other means, simply dripping a little blood (human or otherwise) onto the pile will result in complete reanimation, and makes scattering remains mandatory.
Vampires do not fit the normal stereotype. Some vampires drink cattle blood and play power politics but go to meetings to quit drinking human blood. Some vampires seem to be the stereotypical vampire – obsessively meticulous about their socks, can't learn any modern ideas, and harass townspeople by biting their necks every now and then and requiring them to kill him; but this turned out to be because:
1. The silk socks are expensive,
2. After lying in the coffin for fifty years, modern ideas don't seem so enlightened, and
3. It is healthy exercise and source of family pride for the townspeople.
There are a few ways to become a vampire. People can be born as vampires by vampire parents, or people can be changed into vampires by being bitten by a vampire in a special way. Some vampires can change to a bat form, but some change to other forms such as a magpie. One was even known to hunt in the form of a great black dog. Vampires usually look pale and skinny, but are in fact very fast and powerful. Many vampires can fly, or rather float in the air, while in human form. Others can fly with the aid of wings.
When changing form, a vampire can change into just about any animal form it chooses. The rule being that it must be of equal body mass as the original vampire. It is easier to transform into many bats, thereby maintaining the same body mass. However, the vampire must then control all the bat bodies with a single mind and female Vampires must keep a few carrying clothes unless they wish to arrive naked (there are also complications that come up if a bat happens to get lost from the group).
Discworld vampires can survive in sunlight, provided they wear heavy clothes and broad-brimmed hats. As before, some vampires believe conditioning would reduce their vulnerability to the sun. When exposed to any strong light source (such as a camera flash) they will be immediately reduced to ashes, but require merely a drop of blood to recorporate.
Coolness, poise and self-assurance come easily to natural born vampires. A female vampire will look fabulous even in a modestly priced dress. Female vampires must always carry with them extra garments because although male vampires can recorporate their clothes after an ashing or a transformation, female vampires find this more difficult. The reason for this is unclear, though many speculate it is to do with the "underwired nightdress thing". In other words, according to narrative convention (the all-powerful force on the Disc), FEMALE VAMPIRES MUST ALWAYS BE SEXY.
